about

For the next release on this sporadic archival label, Sacred Summits leave behind the new age, new wave and drone explorations and head to late 80s Grublit to unearth the early recordings for cult tribal techno band,
the Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia (PWOG).

Coming out of their home cities’ post-punk and industrial scene, reaction was part of the pro-action of the times. One such project was the Katharos Foundation, a loose collective of outsiders and artists who came together to express their ideas and thoughts. Through magazines, multimedia events and concerts, the Foundation developed a voice and in that the future members of PWOG slowly came together.

Inspired by philosophy, science and literature, as well as a strong belief in the power of nature, all was explored in the atmospheric and challenging music that reached an epiphany with the arrival of Acid House in 1988 and the realisation that dance was a tool to harbour as much as anything else they had produced up to that point.

Together as the early incarnation of PWOG, Reinier Brekelmans, Reinoud van den Broek and Robbert Heijnen released the 1989 cassette, encapsulating with it their developing sound that would go on to perfect in the next decade.

Eschewing the loved up vibes surrounding much of the music that came from the dance explosion, PWOG brought pushed forward with a deep tribal sound, full of pulsing drums and spoken proclomations that today still move your head as much as your feet.

Taken from the original VHS cassette the 4 tracks were laid down to, the process of cleaning and mastering took onwards of a year before finally being cut at Berlin’s Dubplate & Mastering. With notes from Reinoud himself and hand silk-screened sleeves by House Of Traps, this is one to explore and listen to again and again, until it’s rhythms seep in to the subconscious.
